Annaliese Piraino
I am a passionate, professional, and student-centered Instructor/Trainer and Former Academic Manager committed to fostering and maintaining student interest, retention, and engagement while encouraging independent and high-level cognitive thought processes. As a trainer, I apply practical and innovative adult/HPT/ID learning theories, methodologies, and models; however, at the center of my personal pedagogy I hold to the importance of finding ways to integrate passion, creativity, and excitement as a means of student (and teacher!) motivation! I strive to incorporate myriad instructional processes, and thus value cooperative learning activities, student-centered technologies, and measures of formative and summative assessments. I am experienced with ground, hybrid, and online classroom instruction and design; adult, youth, and college level instruction and students; and traditional/university, technology/specialty, and secondary program design and integration. I have worked with a variety of learning styles and have made progress with challenging students; from these experiences I have grown to value the importance of each students’ needs, and thus differentiate my instructional approach. Coupled with my recent completion of PhD coursework, I am ready for a new and challenging career!

Reviewing the overarching campaign within a theoretical framework, this panel will display and analyze examples from both markets. For example, revealed within Western messages are motifs reminding women to consider body size; stomach tartness; managed [low] weight; large breasts/posterior; and long, flowing hair. Similarly, juxtapositioning of Dove's Chinese campaign reveals similar ideological presence, asking Chinese women to consider corresponding motifs. Here, value is attached to exceedingly small stature/weight, yet divergent standards ask of the Chinese the following: “perky” [but not excessive] breast size, “angelic” face featuring double-fold [Western] eyelids, straight/lifted [Western] nose, heart-shape face, and pale skin. It is thus the proposition of this panel that while such messages appear well intentioned, they continue to reinforce and perpetuate those same ideologies of which they claim to oppose, holding to traditional exploitative marketing of the female image as it is tied to self-worth.

reaches the hands of our students, so do the vast number of applications or
APPS available to the learner. The goal of the APP Fair is to move the
control and design of the next generation of APPS into the learners’ hands.
The annual APP Fair will be an opportunity for k-12 students to develop
their own APPS for utilization and distribution. The goal of the APP Fair
is to engage, excite and energize students into generating functioning
applications for the world. The goal of the App Fair is to allow students
to develop their creativity and skills while creating working applications
(Apps) in various categories. The idea is to present the App Fair program
to innovative educators in an environment of learning.
academic interest as its time-period representations, and character representations, hold underlying ideological and cultural assumptions. This analysis uses a qualitative content analysis methodology to complete a culture-centered criticism based in Althusser’s concept of ideology and Gramsci’s theory of hegemony. Specific to this analysis, the theme of rebellion—as related to gender, politics, and class—provide the principal vehicle of examination, while juxtaposed with the corresponding characters of Lady Sybil and Tom Branson. Overall, this analysis will show that the characters of Branson and Sybil represent rebellion as against the norm, and thus become a powerful force working against three outlined themes of rebellion. However, albeit the Downton Abbey series purports such possibilities, it also resolves such attempts by ultimately leading both characters (and their relationship) into their own destruction and subjugation by the end of Season Three. Therefore, Lady Sybil and Tom Branson’s suffering reinforces the very stereotypes and constraints that they seek to counteract and overturn.
the need for men to “purify” male dominated societies of women that "drive men" to sexual
compulsion. Women are representative of societal atrocities--manifestations of patriarchal fears pertaining to the loss of power. Purging society of supposed forces proves a valuable service to patriarchal order, as a loss of these controls over the woman could prove disastrous. Thus, in order for the familial and societal patriarchy to maintain stability, it is the right of the man to exercise his jurisdiction. Because women are possessions, their violation directly relates back to their possessors; therefore, the woman’s natural propensity to be ravished, elicits a man’s
cultural predisposition to possess. Ultimately, these texts expose possession as the factor used to justify man’s desire to rape, and denote the woman’s fault in her own rape. The act of rape is a political means of advancement in a culture filled with women in need of being ruled. Thus, patriarchal construct requires rule over sexuality, which must be regulated to protect women, the men that possess them, and the patriarchal society as a whole.
