Ascension

We owe to Karl Barth's masterful treatment of the doctrine of reconciliation in the fourth volume of the Church Dogmatics a sketch that is at once beautifully clear and remarkably comprehensive. It is not without shortcomings, however. This paper contains in seminal form some of the ideas developed further (and somewhat differently) in Ascension Theology and Theological Negotiations.

The Shroud of Turin, Christianity's most precious relic is firmly linked to its foundational doctrine: Jesus's miraculous resurrection from the dead. This well defended connection limits Shroud research to the investigation of the mechanics of image formation, the underlying cause (the cause of the cause), being a foregone, non-debatable conclusion; it was a miracle. The miracle status limits the investigation because otherwise it would infringe on foundational doctrine. Advances in science, scholarship, observation and experience since the Gospels were written reveal a natural explanation for what actually took place on the first Easter Sunday and, thus, the cause underlying the cause of image formation. Arriving at this conclusion requires outside the box thinking: looking beyond the Bible into other religious expressions for answers, engaging in non-literal interpretation of the Bible, invoking principles of quantum science and inserting the role of human consciousness into the investigation platform.

Italian church Interiors have been subject to constant change during the whole period of their existence. This often has a strong impact on the pieces of spatial furnishing as well, even when these objects - such as altarpieces, pulpits or screens - are not even touched themselves.

The present article tries to demonstrate this fact by reconstructing the entire history of the transformations of Perugino's famous 'Ascension of Christ' inside and outside the church of S. Pietro in Perugia, for which it had been originally painted.

The article shows that the altarpiece had been created between c. 1496 and 1500 for the high altar of S. Pietro, being designed outwardly as a kind of cupboard. Its main adressee at that point were the monks sitting in the choir district, which was closed off by a frontal tramezzo from the outer areas.

In 1567 this altarpiece was moved into the central window of the apse to give way to a tabernacle of the Holy Sacrament, following the decrees of the Tridentine Council.

In contrast to what had been hitherto assumed, during a major transformation campaign, taking place between 1591-1609, the altarpiece was not touched at all. It however lost its relation to the High Altar, as this liturgical object was moved forward and away from the apse to introduce a retro-choir disposition to S. Pietro in Perugia.

Gradually, the altarpiece was more perceived as an art object rather than a liturgical one. Thus, to allow closer inspection of Perugino's work by art critiques, the predella panels were removed in 1642 and exhibited further on in the church's sacristy. This was part of a wider campaign to partly transform the interior of S. Pietro into a picture gallery by the Cassinese abbot P.D. Leone Pavoni.

In 1751, his successor P.D. Carlo Francesco della Penna had the whole altarpiece disassembled and its various panels incorporated into the re-systematised picture gallery. At this point, it was not only enriched and rendered more symmetrical, but also complemented by a new Sacresty Chapel which served both liturgical and needs and the exigencies of the art connoisseur.

This very delicately balanced picture gallery was severely damaged in 1797 by the requisition of the main panels of Perugino's 'Ascension' altarpiece during the First French Invasion to Perugia. The pictures were then first exhibited in the "Muséum central des arts de la République" (the later Musée du Louvre) and later distributed amongst the Musées des Beaux-Arts du Lyon, du Rouen, du Nantes, and the Musei Vaticani in Rome.

There, the panels have lost all their original liturgical and representational function and serve for the purposes of art enjoyment and research.

This study is devoted to the emotional experience of the famous Renaissance sculptor, goldsmith, and writer, Benvenuto Cellini (1500–1571), as it is portrayed in his life writing, the Vita. Providing the variety of arguments on the connection between the artist and contemporary intellectuals, who attended the Florentine Academy (1540–1583) together, I demonstrate that Cellini’s literary production can be examined productively against the background of Neoplatonic thought. In particular, Marsilio Ficino’s On Love, first published in the vernacular Italian in 1544, helps to establish an explanation of what Cellini meant when he decided to play the cornet while falling in love simultaneously with a young boy and girl, or  how he justified kicking or punching his servants, or why he did not kill his adversary, the artist Baccio Bandinelli, when he had the chance. These cases of radical affectivity are inscribed into Ficino’s concept of the “melancholy genius” manifesting melancholic madness. In Cellini’s Vita, the latter can not only turn humans almost into beast, literally (for example, in a bat); but, properly tempered by the means of music and poetry, as well as of individual and collective magic, it elevates one’s soul “on high,” which corresponds to the Neoplatonic concept of divine madness.

Every year on the 27th of Rajab, Muslims around the world commemorate the event called Al-Isra` and al-Mi'raj, the Prophet(SAW) 's night journey from Mecca to al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem from where he embarked on the second leg of the journey heavenwards.

There are different versions of this journey. Some say that both the events happened in a dream, while others are of the opinion that both of these took place in the waking state and the Prophet(SAW) physically went on the journey, and some say that it was merely a mystic vision shown to him.

The analysis of the author suggests that Al-Isra could have been a bodily experience. Technically, with a little lift from Jibraeel(AS) , who can travel at the speed of light (186,000 miles per second), it was possible for the Prophet(SAW) to physically travel to Jerusalem and return to Mecca in less than five minutes.

Al-Miraj, on the other hand, could not have been a bodily or mystical experience. It could not even be a dream. It fits the core elements of a superlative form of out of body experience (OBE), which is beyond imagination. The state he was in was very conducive to trigger such an OBE. While the body stayed where he was sleeping, his conscience (soul) saw things which fits the pattern of an OBE e.g. looking at what Jibraeel(AS) was doing with his body, passing through a huge space (heaven), meeting the dead (some of the Prophets), and seeing a bright light and the paradise.

Contrary to the misinformation-disinformation or paltering, lies, and deception found on the internet surfacing under the general discipline of “New Age Spirituality” nowadays, the negative aliens do NOT only ‘live’ in the Astral Plane, nor are confined to the lowest 4 dimensions. In fact, they originate from the Wesa System comprised of the parallel (mostly Annunaki) as well as the antiparallel (mostly reptilians) dimensions going up to the 10D. In this respect, it is akin to making a mini wormhole to reach the ‘other side’ of the space-time, which provides a good ‘hiding space,’ as one would be ‘stealth’ and out of sight of whatever exists in the physical plane. An overview of the myriad forms of Ascension maladies or symptoms affecting the awakened and enlightened souls within the 3 rd dimensional Earth plane awaiting to ascend to the higher dimensions of consciousness has been explicated. It is clarified that due to the outpour of the colossal quanta of light energies bombarding Earth nowadays together with their acceleration, certain maladies are being developed and felt by sentient human beings that are mainly associated with the resulting clearing and cleansing of the soul from the stored genetic karma, as well as the consequent evolutional changes that are being experienced within the genetics-physiology of human beings. Indeed, this paper concentrates on this broad category of Ascension maladies with other symptoms being discussed in two other companion papers. It is explicated herein that, broadly speaking, such maladies may be classified as extreme random deep aches and pains that appear and then disappear within diverse parts of the body that can culminate in overstress, anxiety, restlessness and fear, as well as extreme tiredness and fatigue, lethargy, craving for more sleep, drastic changes in night time dreaming, diarrhea or stomach problems, sensation of heart problems, outbreak of rashes and hives, etc.

In recent debate on the doctrine of union with Christ, the theology of John Owen has received mixed treatment, with some arguing that his is among the fullest on offer in Reformed theology, while others argue that it is overly forensic and pietistic, departing significantly from fuller treatments like that of Calvin. These arguments fail, however, because they insufficiently situate Owen's theology of union with Christ in relation to the "three-fold grace" of Owen's christology. This article argues that this three-fold grace structures Owen's conception of union with Christ, and provides important insights regarding the role of both the covenant and the incarnation for framing the creature's participation in Christ by the Spirit.

There is the verbal paradigm and there is the nonverbal unseen spiritual paradigm. This paper advocates a spiritual view. Sacred scripture tells us we can only please God if we try very hard (diligently) to seek Him. If you believe God is present here and now and surrounds you with Himself, you can pray that what you ask will be granted "only if it serves your purpose and brings you glory, in Jesus's name."  When you read sacred scripture, you are struck in every verse by the writers' constant awareness of God. This is in stark contrast with the secular life in which one merely seeks the good life in harmony with one’s neighbour but without any awareness of God. When a child is very young she is aware of God, then from pre-school to university, the secular worldview is taught, and the secular media and the secular workplace prohibit God, or place faith in a negative light.

Peter Lombard argued that Christ merited his own exaltation. Since all humans attain their end by merit, and since Christ was true man, it follows that Christ merited exaltation for himself. Calvin repeatedly rejects this idea, arguing that Lombard obscures the fully benevolent character of Christ's mission because he abstracts Christ's humanity from his divinity. Calvin's polemic against Lombard leverages his anti-Pelagian critique against medieval theologies of merit that reduce Christ's capacity as a representative and restrict the church's full participation in Christ's atonement. Instead, Calvin attempts to establish the substitutionary character of Christ's work by founding the merits of Christ's work on more strictly christological grounds.

The discussion regarding the possibility of being privy to experience continued incarnation, and possibly Ascension after physical death during the present cycle of incarnation has been continued with particular attention to those of humans and non-humans who have needs for expedited life lessons leading to their consciousness expansion. In particular, this discourse pertains to the greatest majority of the present inhabitants of Earth who have proclivity to either negative or positive polarity. In this respect, three groups of individuals are identified that include 1) those highly plagued by Luciferism who are categorized as having strong inclinations to negative polarity, 2) a second group composed of souls who although need extensive life lessons as a result of being predisposed to negative polarity with the residual effects of anger and unresolved issues, still are not considered as malevolent and a source of liability to others, and 3) a third group comprised of individuals with somewhat overzealous predisposition who have acquired negative aliens' dogma of belief system with strong tendencies for materialism and lust for glutinous excess, who are separated from the acumen of their inner soul-spirit. The discussion ends with concluding remarks pertinent to the humanity's experiences with the negative aliens throughout their entire course of creation.

This exposition of Barth's doctrine of the ascension in Volume IV of the Church Dogmatics-'one of the major works of ascension theology'-begins by highlighting some central themes in representative patristic and modern discussions of the ascension and then provides a close and critical reading of the Dogmatics. Of special interest are questions regarding Barth's understanding of the specificity of the Christ-event, the structure of his doctrine of reconciliation, the relation of ontology and soteriology, and the function of the doctrine of the ascension in a thoroughly a posteriori theology.

A simplified analysis has been employed to assess the problem of pain and dizziness associated with advanced stages of Ascension Maladies related to flexural deformation and lateral instability of the spinal column resulting from the surge of incoming light energetics. It is explicated that as a result of bombardment of such incredible energetic forces associated with the acceleration of the incoming light affecting human body, those spiritually awakened and enlightened individuals who are capable of allowing and accreting such potent energies, develop inordinate compressive loading at the extreme ends of their spinal column. Said Nursi (1877-1960) and Muḥammad Iqbal (1877-1938) constructed their prophetologies in light of 'aql (reason), but they also considered the mystical and metaphysical sides of prophethood and Prophet Muḥammad as a major component of their prophetologies. Nursi's and Iqbal's approaches depict a thought-provoking modus towards nubuwwa (prophethood) in a highly rationalised climate. This paper critically examines Nursi's and Iqbal's discussions of the metaphysical dimension of Prophet Muḥammad's ascension, known as the mi'rāj. Nursi and Iqbal respond to the rationalists using 'aql and kashf (spiritual unveiling) without compromising spirituality. Their choice of genre, methods and arguments in defending the spiritual dimensions of mi'rāj, as a second aspect, of nubuwwa will be examined. This paper highlights the creative use and interplay of rational and metaphysics in Nursi's and Iqbal's works (particularly Ayat al-Kubra and Javidnama) as a way to respond to a rationalised climate, but also to retain the spiritual aspects of their faith and mi'rāj in their writings. Both saw the limitations of 'aql and therefore relied on the kashf of the literature and poetry to communicate their thoughts. Nursi's and Iqbal's discussions on the mi'rāj not only depict their contribution to the metaphysical aspects of prophethood, but also illustrate the variance of Muslim scholars' responses to rationalism and prophethood in the 20 th century. The effect of Nursi's and Iqbal's contributions to the continuation of a belief and tradition of Islamic faith is staggering proof of their intellectual and spiritual capacity to defend an aspect of faith with 'aql and kashf, and appeal to the heart and spirit.

This article seeks to clarify the theological significance of the event most often designated as the ascension, which Luke narrates in Luke 24:51 and Acts 1:2, 9-11, and 22. This event is also sometimes referred to as the assumption (or, taking-up) of Jesus. The paper argues that the latter terminology, while utilized far less frequently in the literature, may well be a more apt designation for the event. It makes a case that the event described in Luke 24:51 and Acts 1 should not be regarded as the ascension-exaltation of Jesus but rather as the taking up of Jesus. The study addresses the question of what relationship these taking-up narratives bear to the concept of Jesus’s exaltation (Acts 2:33-35), or, his entrance into glory (Luke 24:26). The paper first exegetes relevant texts outside of the taking-up narratives, and then these narratives themselves; it concludes with four proposed points of theological significance of the event.

Luke's particular portrayal of Jesus' crucifixion and its relationship to spectacle culture has received extensive scholarly treatment. Luke frames the crucified Jesus as a spectacle in a way that suggests his death is noble and Jesus himself is an athlete or martyr in the arena. Missing from these conversations is how we might interpret Luke's resurrection and ascension in light of ancient spectacle culture and what impact these readings have upon the theology and soteriology of Luke–Acts. This paper argues that Luke shifts the readers gaze from cross to ascension and in doing so firmly locates salvation in the ascension of Jesus, not his death or even resurrection. Comparisons with Greco-Roman understandings of benefaction and imperial apotheosis further highlight the unique locus of salvation in Luke's gospel.
