Abstract

　本発明は、保護層Ａ、偏光子及び保護層Ｂをこの順に少なくとも有し、前記保護層Ａが、熱可塑性樹脂を主たる成分とする、ａ層及びｂ層を、少なくとも含んでなり、前記ａ層の曲げ弾性率が前記ｂ層の曲げ弾性率より大きいことを特徴とする偏光板；光源と、入射側偏光板と、液晶セルと、出射側偏光板とをこの順に有する液晶表示装置であって、前記入射側偏光板および／または出射側偏光板が、本発明の偏光板であることを特徴とする液晶表示装置である。本発明によれば、強靭で表面硬度の高い偏光板、及びこの偏光板を備える液晶表示装置が提供される。

前記 a層の曲げ弾性率が前記 b層の曲げ弾性率より大きく、 かつ、 前記 a層の曲げ弾性 率が 3GP a〜4GP aであり、
前記保護層 Aが、 共押出法により得られたものであることを特徴とする偏光板。

前記保護層 Aの透湿度が、 1 0 gZd a y · m2 以下であることを特徴とする請求項 1 に記載の偏光板。

前記保護層 Bが、 複屈折性を有する層であることを特徴とする請求項 1に記載の偏光板

光源と、 入射側偏光板と、 液晶セルと、 出射側偏光板とをこの順に有する液晶表示装置 であって、 前記入射側偏光板および または出射側偏光板が、 請求項 1に記載の偏光板で あることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。
【請求項 9】
光源と、 入射側偏光板と、 液晶セルと、 出射側偏光板とをこの順に有する液晶表示装置 であって、 前記出射側偏光板が、 請求項 1に記載の偏光板であることを特徴とする液晶表 示装置。
【請求項 1 0】
光源と、 入射側偏光板と、 液晶セルと、 出射側偏光板とをこの順に有する液晶表示装置 であって、 前記入射側偏光板および または出射側偏光板が、 請求項 1に記載の偏光板で あり、 かつ、 該偏光板が a層が液晶セルに面しない側の位置となるように配置されている ことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。
補正された用紙 （条約第 19条)

条約 19条 (1)に基づく説明書 請求項第 1項に、 旧請求項 3及び 4の内容を加え、 旧請求項 3及び 4を削除した。 国際調査報告に列記された文献 1 (J P 2004— 5380 1 A) には、 ポリカーボネ 一トとポリエステルフィルムを積層してなる偏光子用保護フィルムが記載されている。 ポ リカ一ボネートの曲げ弾性率は 2. 4GP aであり、 ポリエステルフィルムの曲げ弾性率 は 2〜2. 5GP aである。 補正後の本発明は、 保護層 A、 偏光子及び保護層 Bをこの順に少なく とも有し、 前記保 護層 Aが、 熱可塑性樹脂を主たる成分とする、 a層及び b層を、 少なく とも含んでなり、 前記 a層の曲げ弾性率が前記 b層の曲げ弾性率より大きく、 かつ、 前記 a層の曲げ弾性率 が 3GP a〜4GP aである偏光板である。

本補正により、 本発明が新規性を有することが明確になった。
