PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT L. JOHNSON, OF HANLEY, ENGLAND.
DESIGN FOR A COVERED DISH.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT L. JOHNSON, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of Hanley, Staffordshire, England, have invented and produced a new, original, and ornamental Design for a Covered Dish, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a covered dish embodying the features of my design, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
The cover A of the dish is decorated at its center with an embossed clusterof leaves, and from this cluster a handle rises in the form of two connected stems. Series of regularly-arranged radial depressions extend from the cluster of leaves in direction of the edge of the cover, being most pronounced at their outer ends, and the edge of the cover, which is undulating, is decorated with a continuous bar-scroll and with clusters of leaves constituting portions of the scroll and placed at determined intervals apart.
The body B has a vertically-fluted effect, the depressions from which such eifect is obtained vanishing in direction of the bottom and likewise the top of the body. Adjacent to the upper edge of the body the body is outwardly swelled to such an extent that the depressions mentioned at such point produce what appears as a regular series of knuckles. A bar-scroll is formed near the upper edge of the body, and at the upper knuckle portion of the body clusters of leaves appear at intervals, while at the ends of the body stem-handles are located corresponding to the handle of the cover A. The base of the body is outwardly flared and is rendered undulating at its lower edge. It is decorated at intervals with clusters of leaves having corresponding position on the base to the position of the clusters of leaves at the upper portion of the body.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The design for a covered dish herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ROBERT L. JOHNSON.
