DESIGN.
S. T. ADAMS. HANDLE FOR SPOONS, 6w.
Patented Nov. 11, 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL THOMAS ADAMS, OF MANSFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO ROGERS d: BROTHER, OF \VA'lERlll'RY, ((LYNEOIICV'Y.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR SPOONS, 81.0.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 20,297, dated November 11, 1890.
Application filed October 18, 1890. Serial No. 368,607. Term of patent 14 years- To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL THOMAS ADAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mansfield, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a newand original Design for the Mandies of Knives, Forks, Spoons, and other Articles of Flat \Vare, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part thereof, which drawing is a plan View of a spoon-handle decorated in accordance with my design.
That portion of the handle near the bowl is decorated with alongitudinal rib figure A, giving a column effect, the base whereof is represented as supported upon aleaf-like figure (1, and the top of the column figure is crowned by a capital figure a, comprising two groups of fanciful leaves lying in opposite directions and apparently united by an ornamental band.
Ribbon figures b and b are located one at each side of the handle, diverging at their upper ends, thoirlower ends being concealed by the upper group of the capital figures. The upper ends of the ribbon figures appear as I supports for a semicircular fancifulscroll figure B, which scroll figure and the upper portion of the ribbon figures impart to the edges of the handle an irregular contour. The 30 semicircular scroll figure apparently surrounds a leaf figure c. A ball figure c, pendent from the surrounded leaf figure, is located between the ribbon figures, and a portion of the leaf figure appears above the scroll fig- 35 ure 1 At the upper central portion of the handle an ornamental shell figure D is located, surmounted by a smaller and plain shell figure (1'. At each side of the shell figures aleaf-like 4o scroll E is located close to the margin of the handle, and marginal band figures e extend from the semicircular scroll figure 13 back of the leaf-like scrolls.
I claim- The design for the handles of knives, forks, spoons, and other articles of flatware, substantially as shown and described.
SAMUEL 'IHOS ADAMS.
