DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,829, dated March 21, 1882. Application filed February 11, 1882. Term of patent 3. v years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WINrHRor L. JACOBS, of East Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented anew and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design forcarpets and si milarfabrics; and itconsists in the novel grouping and configuration :to of figures hereinafter more fully described.
The accompanying photograph illustrates a face view of a carpet having my new design.
The ground I) I) is composed of a number of figures various in shape, with irregular, zig' zag, right-lined borders, ornamented by various small figured work consisting of circular and fret work, short-lined, rectangular, diamond, and other geometric ornaments. These figures are traversed by an irregular and seattered network of branches, a a, bearing various flower and other forms, forming an open design.
A is a large flower-figure with a heart-shaped center and pointed leaves at the base and sides,
and forming the crown. From the same stem projects to the left the two-leafgroup 0. Above, on the same stem, is B, with a diamond center, and surrounding petals, with a projecting blossom. Above B is the scattered flower group 0 d. To theright,on the same stem, is the large figure C, with heart-shaped center and surrounding pointed leaves, forming the crown. From C below projects a stem beating the circular flower group 6, with a leaf projecting to the left above and a flowering twig to theleft below. From the center of 6 projects to the right astem bearing D, a large flower figure with heart-shaped center, surrounded by pointed radial leaves. Above 0 and on the same stem is the small flower group f, from which projects a stem bearing the figure E, having a central bell-shaped flower surrounded by small pointed leaves. Abovefis the large figure F, having a center of circular flowers surrounded by radial pointed leaves. From F on the left 5 projects the flower figure G, somewhat similar to E, and above the circular flower g. Above 9 is the large figure H, havingashield-shaped center with surrounding pointed leaves and a projecting bud spray. From F on the right projects the circular flower and flower spray l1 and the large figure K, having a central figure with large petals and pointed leaves around and above, and above F the scattered leaf-andflowergroup/c. Above K is the circular flowerand-bud group 1. Above K to the leftis the large pointed petal and leaf flower L, (shown in part at each end of the 'fliotograph.) Connected with L on the right is the flower M, similar to B, with the circular flowergroup above at. Connected with L on the left is the stamened flower N, and above that the scattered circular flower-and-blossom clusters n and 0.
O is a large pointed-leaf figure with a heartshaped center. P is a smaller pointed-leaf figure. 1) and q are scattered groups of circular flowers and leaves. Q is a large pointed-leaf figure. Ris a larger one, with diamond-shaped center. S is a smaller leaffigurc above 0. 1' is a group of circular flowers.
I claim 1. The design for carpets, 'consisting of the ground I), substantially as shown.

3. The design for carpets, consisting of the figuresABCDEFGHKLMNOPQ R S c d e fg h is Z m a o p q r and stem 0, with connected parts and ground I), substantially as shown.
