Claims (6)
- 액정층을 협지하는 제1 및 제2 기판과, 상기 제1 기판의 상기 액정층에 접하는 측과 반대측에 배설된 제1 편광판과, 상기 제2 기판의 상기 액정층에 접하는 측과 반대측에 배설된 제2 편광판을 구비한 액정표시장치에 있어서, 상기 액정층은, 외부 전계가 인가되어 있지 않은 상태에서 상기 제1 및 제2 기판에 대하여 개략 수직인 제1 배향 방향으로 배향하는 액정 분자를 함유하고, 상기 제1 기판은, 상기 액정 분자의 배향 방향이 상기 제1 배향 방향으로부터 상기 제1 및 제2 기판에 평행한 제2 배향 방향을 향하여 변화하도록 작용하는 전계를 형성하는 제1 및 제2 전극을 담지하고, 상기 액정층중에는, 상기 제1 및 제2 전극에 의해 상기 전계를 인가한 경우, 상기 액정 분자의 배향 방향이, 상기 제1 배향 방향으로부터 상기 제2 배향 방향을 향하여, 제1 방향으로 변화하는 제1 배향 영역과, 상기 액정 분자의 배향 방향이, 상기 제1 배향 방향으로부터 상기 제2 배향 방향을 향하여, 제2의, 상기 제1 방향과는 다른 방향으로 변화하는 제2 배향 영역이 포함되는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 액정 분자는 정의 유전율 이방성을 갖는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 액정층을 협지하는 제1 및 제2 기판과, 상기 제1 기판의 상기 액정층에 접하는 측과 반대측에 배설된 제1 편광판과, 상기 제2 기판의 상기 액정층에 접하는 측과 반대측에 배설된 제2 편광판을 구비한 액정표시장치에 있어서, 상기 액정층은, 외부 전계가 인가되지 않는 상태에서 상기 제1 및 제2 기판에 대하여 개략 수직인 제1 배향 방향으로 배향하는 액정 분자를 함유하고, 상기 제1 기판은, 상기 액정 분자의 배향 방향이 상기 제1배향 방향으로부터 상기 제1 및 제2 기판에 평행한 제2 배향 방향을 향하여 변화하도록 작용하는 전계를 형성하는 제1 및 제2 전극을 담지하고, 상기 제1 기판과 상기 제1 편광판 사이의 제1 극간과, 상기 제2 기판과 상기 제2 편광판 사이의 제2 극간의 적어도 한쪽에, 위상차판을 설치한 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제3항에 있어서, 상기 액정 분자는 정의 유전율 이방성을 갖는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 액정층을 협지하는 제1 및 제2 기판과, 상기 제1 기판의 상기 액정층에 접하는 측과 반대측에 배설된 제1 편광판과, 상기 제2 기판의 상기 액정층에 접하는 측과 반대측에 배설된 제2 편광판을 구비한 액정표시장치에 있어서, 상기 액정층은, 외부 전계가 인가되어 있지 않은 상태에서 상기 제1 및 제2 기판에 대하여 개략 수직인 제1 배향 방향으로 배향하는 액정 분자를 함유하고, 상기 제1 기판은, 상기 액정 분자의 배향 방향이 상기 제1 배향 방향으로부터 상기 제1 및 제2 기판에 평행한 제2 배향 방향을 향하여 변화하도록 작용하는 전계를 형성하는 제1 및 제2 전극을 담지하고, 상기 액정층중에는, 상기 제1 및 제2 전극에 의해 상기 전계를 인가한 경우, 상기 액정 분자의 배향 방향이, 상기 제1 배향 방향으로부터 상기 제2 배향 방향을 향하여, 제1 방향으로 변화하는 제1 배향 영역과, 상기 액정 분자의 배향 방향이, 상기 제1 배향 방향으로부터 상기 제2 배향 방향을 향하여, 제2의, 상기 제1 방향과는 다른 방향으로 변화하는 제2 배향 영역이 포함되고, 상기 제1 기판과 상기 제1 편광판 사이의 제1 극간과, 상기 제2 기판과 상기 제2 편광판 사이의 제2 극간의 적어도 한쪽에, 위상차판을 설치한 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제5항에 있어서, 상기 액정 분자는 정의 유전율 이방성을 갖는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
