Description
図2(a)に、参考形態に係る電気泳動方式の表示装置の模式的な断面図を示す。図2(b)に、参考形態の300行×250列をなすTFTアクティブマトリクスアレイの一部分の模式図を示す。なお、図2(a)中の部分B,Cは、図2(b)中の部分B,Cの断面図に対応している。
さらに、この表示パネル10は、基板絶縁層101上にTFTアクティブマトリクスが形成され、導電性を有する金属基板100と、基板絶縁層101上に形成されたTFTアクティブマトリクスアレイ内に配されたドレイン電極112またはドレイン電極112と同電位である電極(不図示)との間で、保持容量が形成されて、一定の電位にされている。
実施形態の表示パネルについて、図面を参照して詳細に説明する。図3(a)に、本実施形態の表示装置の模式的な断面図を示す。図3(b)に、図3(a)中の部分Dを拡大した断面図を示す。

Claims (10)
- 導電性を有する金属材料からなる導電性基板と、該導電性基板上に設けられた基板絶縁層と、該基板絶縁層上に設けられたX方向配線群およびY方向配線群と、マトリクス状に配された画素と、該画素を駆動するTFT素子と、前記導電性基板の基板電位を所定の電位に制御する制御手段と、を備える表示装置用パネルにおいて、
前記TFT素子は、逆スタガー構造をなし、前記TFT素子のゲート電極と前記導電性基板との間に前記基板絶縁層が配されており、
前記TFT素子のドレイン電極と前記導電性基板との間に前記TFT素子のゲート絶縁層が配され、且つ前記ドレイン電極と前記導電性基板との間に位置する前記基板絶縁層の一部が選択的に除去されて、前記ドレイン電極と前記導電性基板との間で電気的容量を形成し、
前記電気的容量は、前記基板絶縁層の膜厚よりも薄く且つ絶縁破壊を起こさない膜厚で形成された前記ゲート絶縁層に基づいて設定されていることを特徴とする表示装置用パネル。 - 前記制御手段は、前記導電性基板の基板電位を略一定にする請求項1に記載の表示装置用パネル。
- 前記制御手段は、前記基板絶縁層に設けられたコンタクトホールを介して前記導電性基板と電気的に接続されている請求項1に記載の表示装置用パネル。
- 前記電気的容量によって画像情報を保持する請求項3に記載の表示装置用パネル。
- 前記導電性基板は、前記TFT素子のソース電極、前記ゲート電極、前記ドレイン電極、および前記所定の電位を与えるための基板電位制御配線のいずれか1つに電気的に接続されている請求項1ないし4のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置用パネル。
- 前記TFT素子の活性層は、アモルファスシリコン、ポリシリコン、および転写された単結晶半導体のうちのいずれか1つである請求項1ないし5のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置用パネル。
- 請求項1ないし6のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置用パネルと、前記X方向配線群および前記Y方向配線群を駆動する駆動手段と、前記所定の電位を与えるための電源と、前記表示装置用パネルに対向して配置された第2の基板と、前記表示装置用パネルと前記第2の基板との間に設けられた光学変調素子と、を有することを特徴とする表示装置。
- 前記所定の電位は、前記画素電極と対向する第2の基板に設けられた対向電極に与えられる共通電極電位と同電位である請求項7に記載の表示装置。
- 前記駆動手段によって、ドット反転駆動、垂直ライン反転駆動、水平ライン反転駆動、フレーム反転駆動のいずれかで、前記画素に印加する電圧の極性が反転される際、共通電極電位を変調させて駆動するときに、前記導電性基板の基板電位は、前記共通電極電位の変調と同期され、前記基板電位と前記共通電極電位との間の電位差が常にほぼ一定となるよう制御される請求項8に記載の表示装置。
- 前記光学変調素子は、電気泳動粒子と、該電気泳動粒子が分散されている媒質とを有する請求項7ないし9のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
