In an apparatus for directing either mechanical foam or water on to a fire through a delivery nozzle 8 adjusted to change over from foam to water by moving a jet-forming device out of alignment with the water stream through the casing 2 as described in Specification 931,351, an air inlet being thereby closed as described in Specification 931,353, the water nozzle 36 is automatically swung out of the way of the issuing fluid when foam is delivered and swung back for water delivery. The nozzle movement is effected by a double-acting ram 41 operated, via fluid-control pipes 42, in dependence on the position of the jet-forming device or pressure differences in the foam generator casing 2 at change-over from foam to water. According to one of the Provisional Specifications, the water nozzle is slidable axially in the main nozzle to close the outlet of the main nozzle when water is to be delivered. Specification 602,654 is referred to in one of the Provisional Specifications.
