Abstract
789,647. Vehicle wheels. RUHRSTAHL AKT.-GES. April 23, 1956 [May 31, 1955], No. 12374/56. Class 144 (1). In a lightweight railway wheel of the kind comprising a pair of radially outwardly convergent discs 4, 5 having their inner peripheries welded to annular ridges 3 of a hub 2, which is adapted to be forcefitted or shrunk on to an axle 1, and having their outer peripheries 10, 11 bent to receive a tyre, which is fitted without pretensioning and located against axial displacement, the discs 4, 5 are formed with a plurality of concentric corrugations in the radial direction. As shown in Fig. 1, the outer peripheries 10, 11 of the discs are bent radially outwardly, and are spaced by a ring 8, and the tyre 9 has an inner peripheral shoulder to abut the edge of the disc periphery 10, the peripheral edge 11 of the other disc, and, if desired, the edge 10 also, being welded to the inner surface of the tyre. Fig. 2 shows an arrangement wherein the spacer ring 8, which may be radially perforated for heat dissipation, is shaped to fit over the disc peripheries 10, 11 and is joined at its edge to the disc periphery 11 by the weld 13 which unites also with the tyre.
