Abstract

824,462. Wheel rims. YALE & TOWNE MANUFACTURING CO. Sept. 2, 1957, No. 27525/57. Class 144 (2). To permit use of a tubeless tyre 16 on the divided rim of a truck wheel 3, the radially inwardly directed ribs 8 of the two rim halves 4, 4<SP>1</SP> are bolted together to the hub 5 of the wheel with an annular spacer 13 therebetween so that an annular chamber is defined by the outer periphery of the spacer and the adjacent sides of the ribs 8, an annular resilient sealing gasket 12 being received in said chamber and backing against the spacer to prevent loss of inflation air between the rim parts. As shown, the spacer 13 has spaced holes 14 to align with those in the ribs 8 to pass over the wheel bolts 6 and may be separate from, or formed as part of one of, the ribs 8. The gasket 12 may be a rubber O-ring and may seat on a concavity 14a in the spacer periphery.
