Abstract

696,026. Hair curlers. GILLETTE SAFETY RAZOR CO. Sept. 10, 1949 [Dec. 14, 1948], No. 23461/49. Class 131 A hair curler comprises a mandrel, on which the hair is wound, and a clasp member, one of these parts having opposed flanges at one end and the corresponding end of the other part being provided with a collar which seats, rotably, between the flanges so that either part may be swung relatively to the other about a fixed transverse axis and the mandrel may be rotated about its winding axis relatively to the clasp member, co-operating fastening means between the parts being provided. As shown, a reduced extension 16 of a mandrel 10 has a spherical collar 17 which seats in apertures 19 in flanges 18 of a clasp member 12. The mandrel is longitudinally fluted at 11, provided with teeth 14 to grip the end papers on a tress of hair to be permanently waved by a cold waving process, and, at the end opposite to the extension, has a central depression with a serrated edge providing ribs 22 and grooves 24, the corresponding end of the clasp member having an integral arcuate fin 26, which, in the closed position of the curler, passes through diametrically oposite slots 24 and seats in the depression. The clasp member is outwardly bowed and elastic to allow camming action of the fin on the edge of the depression and in the closed position of the curler the lug 28 engages the outer periphery of the mandrel 10.
