Abstract

198,047. Sartory, P. Feb. 23, 1922. Hair-curling appliances.-In a hair curler for permanent waving comprising an axis member and a relatively rotatable sleeve, an adjustable friction clip is used to prevent rotation except on the application of a considerable torque. The projecting axis member 1, Fig. 3, has a slotted boss 2 and is secured to one end of a tube 1<a>, and the sleeve comprises a tube 3, rotatable on the tube 1<a> and split at 3<a>. An adjustable screw clip 4 is mounted on the sleeve 3 so that the split end may be controlled by means of the screw 4a to grip the tube 1<a>. A cleat 5 is provided to secure the end of the tress of hair. In the form shown in Figs. 6 and 7, the sleeve 3 consists of a plain tube reduced at one end 3<a> to take into the clip 4 comprised in the projecting boss 2. In a modification of this form, one end of a plain tube 3, Fig. 10, takes .into the clip 4, while its opposite end carries a fixed sleeve 6 to form a stop for a series of independently rotatable sleeve sections 7.
