Abstract

904,399. Hair-curling appliances. GILLETTE CO. Jan. 16, 1961 [Jan. 28, 1960], No. 1709/61. Class 131. A metal, rubber or plastic device for forming pin curls comprises a base-plate 12, apertured at 16 for passage of a tress of hair and having a centre post 14 around which the tress is wound by a member 30 which consists of an annular flange 34, with a rim 36 and a ring hair-engaging teeth 38, and a hollow handle 32 slidably and rotatably receiving the post, the coiled tress being clamped between the plate and the member 33. Drying apertures 18 and 40 are provided and the handle has friction-reducing ribs 33, the post being hollow to reduce weight. If desired, the coiled tress is retained by a hairpin on the base-plate, the member 30 being removed for use with another tress. In a modification, the base-plate has hair-engaging teeth which lie within the teeth 38 in the closed position of the device.
