A brake disc is provided with means at its inner or outer periphery for engagement with a wheel and with vanes at its other periphery which deflect air across the radially-extending surfaces when the disc is revolving. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 driving dogs 2 are provided at the outer periphery of the disc 1 and the air vanes 4 at the inner periphery. The vanes are formed by deforming the projecting edge portions of a metal band 3 secured to the inner periphery of the disc. Alternatively, individual vanes may be secured to the surfaces of the disc, Figs. 3 and 6 (not shown). In the construction according to Fig. 4 ventilating channels 11 extend from the inner to the outer periphery of the disc, additional vanes 12 being provided at the inner ends of the channels to direct cooling air through the channels, According to a further embodiment, Figs. 5 and 8 (not shown), individual vanes may be mounted at the positions of the vanes 12 but extending beyond the radial surfaces of the disc, and thus circulate air through the channels and over the surfaces of the disc.
