Abstract

833,938. Machinery guards. CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO. Jan. 14, 1958 [April 1, 1957], No. 1283/58. Class 80 (4). An axial flow fan, particularly for a tractor engine radiator, has rotatable therewith a guard comprising a number of radial spokes 22 which chop any debris which may be sucked into the fan into particles small enough not to block the radiator. Larger pieces of debris slide outwardly along the spokes and are thrown clear. The fan guard is thus self-cleaning. As shown, the spokes 22 extend between inner and outer rings 18, 20 attached to the fan blades 16, the latter being secured to a pulley-driven hub 10.
