Abstract

767,355. Vehicle wheels. KELSEY-HAYES WHEEL CO. Oct. 26, 1954 [Dec. 7, 1953], No. 30925/54. Class 144 (1). For brake drum ventilation a one-piece wheel cover disc 3 has circumferentially spaced pairs of louvres 20, 21 pressed out therefrom to form passages 19, the louvres of each pair lying on opposite sides of the disc and opening in opposite directions so that on rotation of the wheel the outboard set of louvres 20 scoop air through the passage 19 and the inboard set of louvres 21 co-operate by sucking air through the passage. As shown in Fig. 2 the cover disc has an indented peripheral flange 17 to engage radially inward projections or bulges 18 on the underside of the wheel rim flange 16 and locate the disc so that its air flow passages are aligned with apertures 12 in the wheel body disc. When applied to a wire-spoke wheel the air flow is directed between the wheel rim and a radially displaced annular flange carried by the hub shell and thence over the brake drum periphery.
