Abstract
486,177. Vehicle wheels. BRET. TELL, F. G. (Steel Wheel Corporation) Sept. 17, 1937, No. 25275. [Class 144 (i)] Wheel-covering discs are provided with means, such as the bead 52, Fig. 1, or the rubber &c. faced ring 164, Fig. 4, arranged to bear against the outer portion of the brake-drum to close the apertures in the web of the drum against entrance of dirt &c. The outer portion of the disc is formed with louvred apertures which co-operate with apertures in the wheel for inducing cooling-air across the outer periphery of the drum. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the brake-drum 28 is formed with a flange 32 to which a flange 34 on the rim 36 is bolted, the flanges having registering apertures 50 aligned with the louvres 48 on the disc 46. In this form, the latter is secured by springing over the edge of the wheel-rim. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the disc 146 is attached to a flanged ring 54 which is secured to the wheel by frictional engagement with a flange 60 on the rim 136, or by spring clips (not shown).
