Abstract

764,281. Vehicle wheels. KELSEY-HAYES WHEEL CO. Feb. 2, 1955 [Feb. 15, 1954], No. 3137/55. Class 144 (1). To provide brake - drum cooling a wheel has a cover disc 3 provided with inboard louvres 20 which open in a circumferential direction and project through and beyond aligned openings 12 in the wheel disc 5. As shown, the cover disc is retained on the wheel by snap engagement of its peripheral flange 15 behind circumferentiallyspaced radially inward projections 17 on the under-surface of the bead-seat flange 16 of the wheel rim. Gutboard louvres 19 facing in the forward direction of rotation 21 are provided to scoop air through the wheel disc holes 12 ; the inboard louvres facing in the opposite direction to create an ejection effect. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 6, the cover disc may be secured by snap engagement of radially outwardly-projecting bosses 24, on the radiallyouter portions of the inboard louvres, behind the adjacent peripheral edge 26 of the wheel disc holes.
