Abstract

A sperm oil composition for the lubrication of steel during cold reduction consists essentially of sperm oil suspended in droplet form and in non-emulsified manner in water. Oil is used in the ratio of one part in four to twenty parts of water, and preferably the oil has a free fatty acid content of two per cent maximum. Preferably ingredients in the oil which do not dissolve to liquid form at about 45 DEG F. are removed.
