Abstract

A lubricating composition, suitable as a lubricant for machines and equipment which come into contact with food, consists of a sterile solution of a minor proportion of one or more esters of p-hydroxy benzoic acid in a major proportion of a tasteless, odourless and colourless mineral lubricating oil. In an example, a lubricating composition consists of 50 gms. of "Nipa 64" (a blend of esters of p-hydroxy benzoic acid, in which blend the iso-butyl ester predominates; the word "Nipa" is a Registered Trade Mark) and 100 Kgs. of medicinal paraffin.ALSO:A sterilizing composition, which can be used as a lubricant or cleansing agent for machines and equipment which come into contact with food, consists of a sterile solution of a minor proportion of one or more esters of p-hydroxy benzoic acid in a major proportion of a tasteless, odourless and colourless mineral lubricating oil. In an example, a sterilizing composition consists of 50 gms. of "Nipa 64" (a blend of esters of p-hydroxy benzoic acid, in which blend the isobutyl ester predominates; the word "Nipa" is a Registered Trade Mark) and 100 kgs. of medicinal paraffin.
