Abstract

Pharmaceutical compositions which are emulsions, comprise aqueous solutions of disodium-4 : 41-diethylaminodiphenyl sulphone-a : a 1-disulphonate in a neutral, oily base which may be a vegetable oil such as arachis oil or a mineral oil such as paraffin oil or soft paraffin, in the presence of a blend emulsifying agent such as beeswax, wool alcohols or lanolin. The compositions, which should contain not less than 5 per cent by weight and not more than 20 per cent by weight of the active material, are said to be active against bactericidal infections, especially eye infections.
