Abstract
544,462. Drying granular &c. material. NEWELL & CO., Ltd., E., and HOWDEN, P. Jan 24, 1941, No. 961. [Class 34 (ii)] Furnace slag or other granular material is dried by direct contact with furnace gases in an inclined rotary drier comprising a double drum 10, 11, Fig. 1, provided with lifting ribs 21, 23, Fig. 3, and a drum 12 provided with lifting ribs 13, Fig.. 5, and longitudinal cascading members 14 of cruciform section. The material is supplied through a chute 35 at one end of the drums and passes through the annular space in the double drum and through the drum 12 to a discharge casing 32 at the other end. Hot gases from a furnace 27 flow through the inner drum 11 and back through the annular space surrounding it and are drawn by a fan through a pipe 30 into a cyclone separator 31. Hot gases from another furnace 33 flow through the drum 12 and mix with the gases in the double drum. The dust from the separator is discharged into the dried material in the outlet casing 32.
