Abstract
556,546. Drying crushed stone &c. NEWELL & CO., Ltd., E., and HOWDEN, P. Jan. 20, 1943, No. 7986. Divided out of 553,924. [Class 34 (ii)] Crushed ore, stone or like material is heated or dried before entering a kiln or calcinator by hot gases from the kiln led into an annular flue 11 around a chamber containing a conical grid 16 down which the material slides to an annular outlet 19 discharging into a vertical passage across which the gases flow through a grid forming the inner wall of the passage to the space below the conical grid. After passing through the conical grid, the gases escape through a flue 28. The material is discharged through an outlet 30 controlled by a damper at the bottom of the conical lower part of the chamber.
