Abstract
526,699. Sulphonated fatty materials. NATIONAL OIL PRODUCTS CO. March 23, 1939, No. 9212. Convention date, March 24, 1938. [Class 2 (iii)] In a process for producing sulphonated fatty materials, a washed and neutralized sulphonated animal or vegetable oil, fat or fatty acid is dehydrated under reduced pressure. The product is then preferably dissolved in an organic solvent, the precipitated inorganic salts being filtered off, and the solution is distilled, preferably under reduced pressure. As starting materials sulphonation products of animal and vegetable fats, oils and fatty acids such as castor oil, corn oil, olive oil, cod liver oil, whale oil and the like are used. The solvent used can be an alcohol, a hydrocarbon, a chlorinated hydrocarbon, an ether, or a ketone, e.g. ethyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, ethylene dichloride, petroleum ether, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone and methyl propyl ketone. Examples of the purification of sulphonated olive oil are given.
