Abstract
514,053. Making emulsions. COLGATEPALMOLIVE-PEET CO. April 19, 1938, No. 11784. Convention date, Jan. 18. [Class 1 (i)] [Also in Group IV] #-methylglycerine derivatives which are stated to be emulsifying agents are prepared by reacting a #-methylglycerinechlorbydrin or a mixture of isomers thereof with a sulphite and esterifying the product with a fatty acid or fatty acid halide. In a modified process, #- methyl glycerinedichlorhydrin is treated first with a sulphite to form a soluble salt of chlorhydroxy methylpropanesulphonic acid which is then condensed with an alkali metal salt of a fatty acid. In examples, coconut fatty acids and the corresponding acid halides are used for the esterification of the #-methylglycerinesulphonic acid. The products may be used to disperse oleaginous materials in water. Specification 477,521, [Group IV), is referred to.
