293,717. Marks, E. C. R., (Chemische Fabrik Stockhausen et Cie). April 6, 1927. Divided on 293,480. Sulphonated oils; fats or fatty acids.-Animal and vegetable oils and fats or fatty acids are sulphonated with concentrated sulphuric acid in excess of 35 per cent, the acid being added as quickly as possible with intensive cooling to keep the temperature below 15‹ C., and the product is washed and neutralized immediately. An example is given of the sulphonation of castor oil under these conditions.
