Abstract

A mixed carbonyl salicylic ether-anhydride of salicylo-carbonic acid and homologues thereof are obtained by treating a di-metallic salicylate or homologue thereof with carbonyl chloride in suspension in a neutral solvent without application of heat or without sufficient heat to decompose the product. German Specification 211,403 is referred to. According to an example, disodium salicylate in toluene is treated with carbonyl chloride at from -5 to 0 DEG C. to give a product of the formula <FORM:0426243/IV/1> which is stated to be capable of entering into reaction with most varied substances.
