508,654. Converting. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOBILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Dec. 12, 1938, No. 36206. Convention date, Dec. 14, 1937. [Class 38 (ii)] An arrangement for converting high tension D.C. into low voltage A.C. comprises a number of grid-controlled discharge devices L1 ..... L5 connected in series, a condenser C1 ... C4 connected across every two successive discharge devices, the load circuit R being connected in series with a condenser C5 across the last discharge device. The odd- and even-numbered discharge devices are rendered conductive alternately by grid potentials which may be derived from the D.C. supply terminals through condensers. The discharge devices may be high vacuum valves or gas- or vapour-filled valves with grids capable of suppressing the discharge. The D.C. connections may be as indicated in full lines, or alternatively as indicated in broken lines in which case an additional discharge device L2 is included in the negative lead. Where the discharge device L2 is provided, the condenser C1 may be omitted.
