Abstract
476,489. Coke ovens. KOPPERS CO. OF DELAWARE. June 5, 1936, No. 15770. Convention date, June 12, 1935. [Class 51 (ii)] In a regenerative coke oven in which air and gas for combustion are supplied to the regenerator sole flues in one phase of working from one side of the battery, while products of combustion are passed to the waste gas main during the other phase from the opposite side, the connecting ports 12 between the sole flues and the regenerators decrease in size from the gas and air inlet end to the waste gas outlet end. In a coke oven of the " cross-over " type shown, in which each heating-unit comprises two pairs of regenerator chambers and two heating-walls connected by the cross-over flues 17, the air and gas inlet and waste gas outlet connections 7, 8 respectively, are preferably reversed for adjacent heating-units, waste gas and lean gas mains 18, 19 being in this case provided at both sides of the battery. The ports 12 may decrease in size uniformly as shown, or the decrease may be between groups of ports of the same size. The reversing- valves are operated from a common reversal mechanism, and where the ovens are adapted for firing by rich and lean gas alternatively, the rich gas is supplied by mains 23 at both sides.
