465,675. Ball and float valves. BRETT, H. S. Jan. 9, 1936, No. 796. [Class 135] Where a valve is actuated by a ball or float through a lever, means are provided which, in the event of the ball or float falling off, acts upon the lever to raise it and close the valve automatically. A ball 15 actuates the valve 3 through a lever 14. A bracket 1 clamped between the valve 3 and the tank carries a fulcrum pin 5 for a lever 6 carrying a weight 7 adjustable thereon. The other arm of the lever carries a pin 10 from which is suspended a stirrup 11 having a series of holes 12 to accommodate a pin 13 which bears against the underside of the lever 14. The weight tends to prevent sudden movements of the ball and is adjusted to hold the ball with its seam above water level. To allow of further adjustment the weight, which may be of lead or other brittle substance, is slotted at places such as 16 so that parts may be broken off. In a modification, an adjustable spring replaces the weight. The stirrup is free to move sideways on the pin 10 which may extend from either side of the lever 6.
