Abstract

539,714. Float-actuated valves. ARMSTRONG MACHINE WORKS. March 19, 1940, No. 5122. Convention date, June 27, 1939. [Class 135] [Also in Group XIII] A snap-acting valve applicable to steam traps comprises a closure member 9 carried by an arm 10, 12, pivoted at 11, and co-operating with an adjustable seat 5. The arm 12 is continued by a leaf spring 16 attached to a pivot pin 15 to which a float arm 14 is also fixed. In closed position, the spring 16 has a double curvature and cuts the line AB passing through the points 11, 15, and as the float rises, the spring snaps over and assumes a bowed form on the upper side of the line AB carrying the valve to open position.
