Abstract
468,992. Ball and float valves. LUND, H.H.B. July 6, 1936, No. 18748. [Class 135] A float-actuated valve device particularly adapted for intermittently supplying fertilizer liquid to the trays of a soil-less cultivation cabinet for the germination of seeds is adapted to open and close with a snap action. The bifurcated arm 5 of the actuating float is mounted on a pivot 4 passing through the ears 3 of a stand 2. The valve 17 which co-operates with a seat 18 is suspended by a chain 16 from one end of a lever 9 also mounted on the pivot 4. An eyebolt 20 is pivoted to the other end of the lever 9 and slidably engages a plate 8 pivoted between the arms of the lever 5. A weighted arm 18<a> is secured to the lever 9 between the pivot 4 and the eyebolt and a compression spring is arranged between the plate 8 and the shoulder formed by the head on the eyebolt. As the water level rises, the spring is gradually compressed reaching a maximum compression when the float arm and lever are in line. Beyond this point the spring tends to move the lever against the action of the weighted arm. At a certain point, the movement exerted by the spring is sufficient to overcome the weighted arm causing the lever to move rapidly to its valve opening position. The weighted arm now bends to hold the lever in its new position. Specification 472,873 is referred to.
