Abstract
381,293. Ship construction. KENNAUGH, T. T., Stanilands, Spital, Cheshire. Aug. 26, 1931, No. 23963. [Class 113 (ii).] In a hull construction, the intercostal longitudinals 4a, 4b are directly welded to the bulkhead 2. The boundary bars 3 of the bulkhead, which may be continuous or intercostal relatively to the longitudinals, are also welded to the latter. Additional means for attaching the longitudinals to the bulkheads comprise the angle brackets Fig. 6, welded both to the bulkhead and to the standing flange of the longitudinal. These brackets may be employed alone or in combination with upper boundary bars 20 and interposed plates 19. In a further modification in addition to the corner brackets 16, Fig. 7, angles 22 or flat plates are passed through slots cut in the bulkheads and their free ends are welded to the upper horizontal flanges of the longitudinals.
