Abstract
210,867. Millar, W. Aug. 15, 1922. Grant of Patent refused. Frames and framing.-Vessels framed as described in Specification 106,124 in which inter alia strong reinforced side frames are arranged in line with strong pillar beams, the intermediate side frames being of less depths, are modified bv substituting for the reinforced side frames, frames 4 which extend inboard to the same extent as the intermediate side frames. Compensation for the omission of the reinforced frames may be achieved in various ways, for example by more closely spacing the pillar beams, or by reducing the spacing of the side frames in the vicinity of the pillar beams. Gussets 14, 15 connect the pillar beam 1 with side frames and vertical bulkhead stiffeners 5. Stringers 19 stiffened at their edge may be provided. The invention is applicable to ships with single or with double bottoms.
