Framing.-In the bottom of a floating vessel 'built on the ordinary transverse system of framing, short pieces L of rolled sectional material are worked intercostally, in the fore and aft direction, between the transverse floor frames T and are attached to the shell plating but not to the transverse frames. Similar short pieces M may, in addition, be applied under the tank top, as shown, in double-bottom vessels. The pieces L, M may be connected together by vertical bars, flanged plates, or diagonal stays Z, Fig. 8.
