本发明涉及一种字母数字键盘,该键盘包括多个数字键和功能键。本发明主要适用于体积有限且按键的个数有限的键盘,而且特别是手持式计算机和移动电话的键盘。
一些已知的字母数字键盘的技术是:当相应的键按下时,键盘工作于数字模式和字母模式。这方面的例子有:US-A-4599279,US-A-4994992,US-A-5117455和US-A-5339358。上述的前二个美国专利的说明中还描述了一种键盘,在这种键盘中可同时按下多达四个相互邻近的键,这样就可使用尽可能少的键,完成尽可能多的功能。尽管这种设计的键盘体积较小,但是它难以掌握,也就是说它不易操作,于是这种键盘不是特别地用户友好。上面提到的后两种美国专利说明书描述的键盘中使用相互邻近的键对,当所述的键对相继按下时将产生特定的字母或字母字符。
本发明目的是提供一个体积有限,且按键个数有限的键盘。该键盘不仅是用户友好的,而且可以通过用一个手的一个手指按下一个或多个键来交替地产生数字或字母字符,而不需转换键。
这些目的是根据本发明以一种前面定义的字母数字键盘实现的。该键盘是程控的,使得当两个相互邻近的键同时按下时将产生一个字母字符,而且仅按下一个数字键时将会产生一个数字。因为数字是由按下一个键来产生的,而字母是由同时按下两个相邻的键来产生的,用户将发现很容易将这两种功能分开,并且很快地键入同时包含有数字和字母或字母字符的数据。因为键是相互分开的,所以用户非故意地同时按下二个相邻的键的风险也较小。
根据本发明的一种优选实施例,当单个键或二个键从按下位置返回时,将产生数字和字母字符。并且,其中一个键的按下将激活搜索装置,或扫描装置,该装置查寻在一个给定的时间段内,是否有相邻的键被按下。
参考附图,本发明将被更详尽的说明。图1是一个带有根据本发明的一种实施例的键盘的手持式计算机的前视图,图2用示意图说明了一个当两个键同时按下时信号产生的例子。
图1中所示的手提式计算机包括一个发明的键盘1。该键盘包括有20个键T,这些键以七行三列进行排放。图1中最上面的十个键是数字键,剩下的十个键是功能键。在图中键T以圆环形状表示,并且按照惯例标上了数字,当该键被按下时,该功能起作用,并产生该数字。字母A-印在键盘的外壳2上行和列相邻的键的空隙处。
键盘1由程序控制,这样当两个相邻的键按下时会产生一个字母。这样当键7和8被同时按下时,将产生字母A,而同时按下数字键7和4将产生字母C。因为字母或字母字符总是由同时按下两个相邻的键来产生,所以用户很快就能学会使用这个键盘,并且一旦熟悉了该键盘后,用户基本上就不会错误地使用这些键了。而且,当键入字母数字表达式时,不需使用转换键,而只需按下一个或两个键来产生字符,于是就使得这种表达式的输入很快,并且与输入单纯的数字表达式有同样的可靠度。因为产生字母的键对是由两个相邻的键组成的,所以可由一个手指将它们同时按下,当然只要这两个键没有被布置得相距太远。
图1中所示的手持式计算机被设计为当一只手拿着该计算机时,同一只手的大姆指可以输入字母数字字符。为了使这种操作更方便,按键最好不要靠得太近,因为这样将使只按下一个键的动作难以完成,于是增加了非故意地按下两个键的风险。
在本文件中,两个相邻键的同时按下所指的是由于连续的手指运动,这两个键被按下。在这种运动中,通常手指会在触摸一个键前,短暂地触摸了另一个键,事实上两个键的按下并不是精确地发生在同一个时刻。图2用示意图说明就键T1和T2而言电压V是时间t的函数,例如数字键1和2,按下上述两个键将产生一个字母,比如说字母K。当键T1和T2分别在t1和t2时刻被按下,电压值将分别从V1降到V2,从V4降到V3。当在t4和t3时刻分别将键松开时,电压值将分别升至V1和V4。在图示的情况中,用户的手指首先触到了键T1,并在很段的时间之后触到了键T2,然而上述两个键T1、T2基本是同时被松开的。
为了确认一个键的按下是否与字母字符有关,当每次一个键被按下时,也就是说,其电压降到底值时,将触发一个键搜索程序,其中在一个给定的时间内,应至少对被按下的键的相邻的键进行查询,以确认是否其中有一个键被按下。如果在这段搜索周期内,没有其它的键的电压为底值,那么该被按下键的数字或功能将被存储下来,并且当键被松开时,也就是说,当电压返回到早先的那个值时,存储的字符将被写入。另一方面,如果在上述的搜索周期中,发现与按下的键相邻的键中有一个也被按下时,将存储一个字母,并且当键松开时,字母被写入。程序将忽略在搜索周期结束后其它键的按下。当检测到另一个键被按下时,搜索将中止。
这样,为了使键T1,T2的按下使得一个字母被写入,正如图2所示,搜索周期的时间间隔必须等于或大于时间差值t2-t1。已经发现这个时间差一般在10~500ms这个范围之内,最好在50~200ms这个范围。
也有可能在搜索中断后的某个时候编入一个将字符写入的执行时间,搜索的中断可能是因为该周期的结束或是因为检测到另一个键被按下。这意谓着在一个给定的周期过去后,该字符将被写入,而不考虑该键是否已被松开。也可能这样进行规定,即在一个字符被写入之前,该键应已被按下了一个给定的时间长度。
图1中所示的手持式计算机包括一个显示器3和一组功能键F1-F6。如果希望在不增加键的数目的情况下,扩展功能的个数,当然也可以使用与前面所描述的键组合不同的其它的键组合,以设计出这些功能并且相应地改变搜索条件。
可以理解,该键盘的所描述的实施例可以在本发明的范围之内被修改。例如,键盘的形状和键的布置可以与图示的不相同。例如,键盘可以是圆形的,且键是以同心圆的方式进行排列。键盘的控制程序还可以这样编制:当键T从它被按下的底电压的位置被松开时,写入数字;并且当搜索装置检测到两个键被同时按下时,直接将字母写入。因此,本发明仅由以下权利要求书的内容来限制。

Claims (5)

1.一个包括有多个数字键和功能键的字母数字键盘(1),其特征在于该键盘(1)是程控的,使得同时按下两个相邻的键(T)将总会产生一个字母字符,并且单独按下一个数字键将总会产生一个数字。
2.根据权利要求1的键盘,其特征在于,当一个键(T)或两个键从被按下的位置返回时,将产生一个数字和字母字符。
3.根据权利要求1的键盘,其特征在于,当一个键(T)从被按下的位置返回时,将产生一个数字,并且当两个键(T)被同时按下时,将产生一个字母字符。
4.根据权利要求2或权利要求3的键盘,其特征在于一种搜索装置,该装置由一个键(T1)的按下进行触发,从而查寻在一个预定的时间周期中是否有一个相邻的键(T2)被按下。
5.根据权利要求1-4中任何之一的键盘,其特征在于,当两个相邻的键(T)被同时按下时所产生的字母字符是被标记于相关的键(T)对之间的键盘外壳之上。
