What follows is a paper published over thirty years ago. It deals with the topic of “Distributive Justice” and a highly controversial fugitive from justice of the times, a kind of real life Robin-Hood operating in Catalunya, whose exploits caused him to be viewed by many as a hero but by others as nothing more than a bandit preying on the rich.

The decision on Cervantes’ part to include such a hotly debated public figure in his work is an interesting one. His choice to do so might be compared that of a contemporary American novelist who decides to include a comic vignette describing an encounter with Edward Snowden (‘hero’, ‘defector’, ‘patriot’, ‘traitor’) in what is otherwise a fictional work, but at the same time leaving a margin of ambiguity so that the author's real attitude toward this fictionalized character is ultimately left to the reader to figure out. 

Similarly, over the years attempts to determine the attitude held by Cervantes vis-à-vis his character, known as Perot Roque Guinard, Perot Roca-guinarda, Roca Guinarda as well as Roque Guinart, have been varied with the pendulum swinging back and forth from a “Romantic” to an “Ironic” reading of the text.

This paper focuses on mythological Sinon in Spanish Golden Age drama as a character. After a commentary on Greek and Latin Literature sources depicting Sinon, this paper analyzes five Spanish mythological plays: La destrucción de Troya (1647), «entremés» wrongly attributed to Góngora, La destrucción de Troya (XVIIth century), by Cristóbal de Monroy, wherein Sinon is the play's «gracioso», Troya abrasada (ca. 1640), by Calderón de la Barca and Juan de Zabaleta, wherein Sinon is a tragic traitor, El robo de Elena y destrucción de Troya (XVIIth century), a sacramental play by Rojas Zorrilla wherein Sinon is an allegory of Godly Love, and Los amores de Dido y Eneas (XVIIth century), by Cristóbal de Morales, wherein Sinon is a remnant of the Renaissance Theatre prologue. A quotation from a fictitious play called Astucias de Sinón, in El Diablo cojuelo (1641), by Vélez de Guevara, is also examined.

Entre 1448 y 1449 Michele Savonarola, profesor de la Universidad de Ferrara y médico
de corte del marqués Leonello de Este, termina De balneis et termis Ytalię, el tratado de
termalismo más completo conocido hasta el momento. En él analiza los diferentes tipos de baños, los componentes de las aguas minerales y las principales termas de Italia. El presente trabajo ofrece la primera edición crítica del texto, realizada tomando en consideración todos los manuscritos e incunables conservados que lo contienen, y la primera traducción moderna.
Acompañan a la edición con aparato crítico y de fuentes y a la traducción anotada una
pormenorizada introducción sobre el autor y su tiempo y un glosario de los conceptos
técnicos presentes en la obra. Tal conjunto pretende ofrecer las herramientas para un
correcto entendimiento e interpretación de este importante ejemplo de literatura técnica
renacentista.

Antología anotada y comentada del libro V de la Guerra de las Galias de Julio César realizada como Trabajo de Fin de Máster en el Máster de Profesor de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria y Bachillerato y revisada y actualizada ahora con motivo de su publicación. Constituye una guía práctica y útil para la preparación de los exámenes de acceso a la universidad, pensada tanto para el uso del profesor en el aula como para el alumno autodidacta.
Se trata de una antología del libro V de la Guerra de las Galias, donde se recogen textos de dificultad similar a los aparecidos en la Selectividad en los últimos años, con una serie de anotaciones y comentarios pensados para facilitar su comprensión y traducción por parte del alumno, para hacer más atractivo y sencillo su estudio. Una introducción precede a los textos y sirve para contextualizar al autor, la obra, el género, la época y los hechos históricos.

The causative diathesis –its semantic nature and its processes of formal expression– has been one of the most explored areas in the field of linguistics in recent decades from various disciplines and theoretical frameworks, as well as in numerous languages. In this sense, Latin has been an exception. Proof of the little attention that Latin causativity has claimed to date is the fact that most Latin syntax manuals, both classic and current ones, do not devote a chapter –and, in some cases, not even a page– to the treatment of this question.
The reason for this is that, unlike other languages, Latin does not have a regular morphological procedure for the expression of causativity. This diathesis is expressed in Latin preferably by means of noun‐verbal collocations of the type aliquem morte afficere (literally «affect with death», «kill») or aliquem alicui honorem dare («give someone an honor», «honor»).
The study of the collocations and, more particularly, of the support verbs constractions has also demanded a wide attention both in modern languages and, lately, also in Latin. The object of study of this Thesis is not the most prototypical support verbs, that is, those that develop the argument and event structure of the name without modifying them, but the extensions, and in a very special way the causative extensions.

This article analyzes a passage from the Life of Othon by Suetonius (3, 2), in which Nero is portrayed in the farcical and degraded role of an exclusus amator. Evident references to the comedy tradition, as well as to the rhetoric of παρακλαυσίθυρον, have been found in the text. Suetonius, like other sources (starting with Tacitus), in this literally sophisticated way means to intentionally accentuate the more vulgar characteristics of Nero and Othon.

El presente trabajo tiene como principal objetivo estudiar la asignación de género a los sustantivos del español a través de fenómenos como la concordancia y la ambigüedad. Asimismo, se presentarán los procesos que han intervenido en la identificación de los sustantivos con un género u otro, así como los esfuerzos por parte de los eruditos de imponer el masculino a muchos de ellos por considerarlo más prestigioso. A continuación, se expondrá un panorama general de la problemática en torno al vínculo género-sexo, prestando especial atención a su dimensión semántico- pragmática, al papel de las instituciones, al comportamiento de los hablantes y al cambio social.

Desde que se descubrió el contenido literario de la Cueva Negra de Fortuna, ha sido una ne-cesidad sentida por los investigadores el invitar a los latinistas a unirse al estudio de esos textos, desde el trabajo de su lectura e identifi cación hasta el no menos difícil de interpretación. Sólo muy lentamente los estudiosos han ido tomando tales textos en consideración. Probablemente por lo novedoso del hallazgo, pero también, no se puede dudar, por la terrible difi cultad de la tarea. He aquí la primera razón de la alegría que nos colma a la hora de presentar este libro. Se recoge en él la refl exión del grupo presente en un congreso celebrado en Fortuna, los días 10-13 de febrero del año 2001, al que asistimos 25 personas, cuyas aportaciones, unas directas y otras por infl uencia están aquí presentes.

The following article proposes a Reading of the classical authors from the adaptation of a Latin text for which is taken, in this case, the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice of the Ovidian work Metamorphoseon libri as an example and model. This way, students will be able to enjoy the original texts from early stages of the study of the Latin language, thus adapting them to diff erent language styles. Reading and understanding of the Latin text and the study of Latin grammar and syntax are carried out through an active use of the Latin language whose results will be manifested by making the exercises and taking the fi nal test.

The purpose of this thesis is to discover whether the dichotomy of Ser/Estar in Spanish, in contrast with the verb To Be in English represents not only a different view of the world of their speakers, but
also a difficulty in the translation of said verbs. In order to find an answer, this work was divided in different sections for a more comprehensive analysis of all its variables.
First of all, a section regarding the history of the copulas and the languages in question was provided, in order to identify their origins, development throughout time, among other factors. The aim of this analysis was to discover why both languages differed in their copulas, given that it would seem English speakers never found themselves in the need to make a distinction so obvious in Spanish. The following step was an overview of the philosophical value of ser, as explained by
many well-known thinkers of all periods. The purpose of the overview was to further comprehend a very important difference between ser and estar, as well as to compare them with their English equivalent. Another subject studied in this section was the importance of language in the
construction of reality. This was also important due to the fact that, throughout history, the views regarding the world, the society and people themselves have changed progressively; and said evolution, in turn, affected and was affected by the language.
After setting forth these baselines, texts from different periods, both in English and Spanish were analyzed. This served to examine the evolution of the uses and spelling of the three verbs during the different times in history, and corroborate and expand the results found in the first stage of this work. Within this section there was also an analysis of difficult cases regarding the translation of these verbs, taking different popular examples, among which was the famous soliloquy To be or not
to be. The results obtained provided a framework to find methods to facilitate the translation of ser, estar and to be, both from Spanish into English –which was particularly problematic- and vice versa.
It was concluded that even if there were not two separate words in English to represent both Spanish copulas, the language had evolved to provide different resources to make the differences clearer; resources which could be of much use in the translation of problematic cases.

Este informe pericial se presentó en enero del 2020 en el contexto del proceso judicial 389/2018 – M, más conocido como caso Iruña Veleia.
Por un lado, se valoran tres informes emitidos por el Instituto del Patrimonio Cultural de España (IPCE) a petición del Juzgado de Instrucción n° 1 de Vitoria-Gasteiz, con objeto de evaluar la autenticidad/falsedad de las piezas grafitadas cuestionadas en el caso Iruña Veleia.
Por otro lado se presentan y analizan los resultados de unos ensayos de grabado experimentales - realizados en un laboratorio independiente - sobre cerámicas de imitación. El objetivo de estos ensayos fue estudiar las evidencias de una falsificación llevada a cabo mediante el uso de herramientas modernas.
Tras ser aceptado el informe por la magistrada del caso, el autor del informe presentó sus conclusiones en el juicio oral.

During the eighteenth century Canary major characters include a classical and humanistic conscience, including Bernardo Cólogan Fallon, a key figure in the cultural landscape of Tenerife, whose work in social, political and intellectual contributed greatly to the spread of Enlightenment ideas in the Islands.

Our goal is to contribute to a better understanding of his literary facet under Canarian illustration and to rescue from oblivion one of his works written in Latin, by a new critical edition and translation.

We put forward a teaching proposal on Gamification for the subject Latin II in
the 2nd year of Bachillerato, an escape room whose narrative focuses on Cicero’s speech Pro Caelio. For a limited time, students, organized in groups, must solve several challenges about the contents of the curriculum: literature (oratory and lyrical poetry), vocabulary, morphology, syntax and the translation of original texts. This teaching approach allows
students to review and consolidate their knowledge in a playful way and it also contributes to develop their communicative skills, rational thinking and digital competence.

En el presente estudio nos centramos en De balneis et termis Ytalię, el tratado de termalismo más completo de su época, escrito en el curso 1448-49 por el médico de
corte y profesor de la Universidad de Ferrara Michele Savonarola y dedicado al futuro duque de Ferrara Borso de Este. En él analiza los diferentes tipos de baños y las principales termas de la península itálica. A través del estudio de las anécdotas y los numerosos proverbios citados por el autor podemos acercarnos a distintos aspectos de una Italia en pleno Renacimiento, conociendo su vida cotidiana, sus costumbres, creencias e inquietudes.

The quote, in which the people of the Island of Barataria liken Don Quijote's squire Sancho Panza to the figure of King Solomon, constitutes the only explicit mention of the legendary Biblical monarch in Cervantes' entire masterpiece. This chapter seeks to show that this allusion to the figure of Solomon is actually the culmination of a series of intertextual echoes of Hebrew legends in Don Quijote . Although the association between the squire Sancho Panza and King Solomon is evident in different ways throughout the novel, the chapter focuses especially on a series of events linked to the episode of Sancho's governorship in Barataria. The shadow of King Solomon in Don Quijote is not only that of the monarch described in several books of the Bible, but also the mythical Solomon popularized in diverse Hebrew and specifically Judeo-Spanish legends that circulated throughout Spain in the Middle Ages. En el presente artículo, se clasifican distintas expresiones latinas, aparecidas en algunos periódicos
costarricense entre abril y octubre, ambos del 2004.

Rica from April 2004 to October 2004.

Debido a su importancia en la sociedad colonial, el latín americano ha sido estudiado desde muchos puntos de vista diferentes; sin embargo, cuestiones como su pronunciación han sido menos abordadas por los estudiosos. Este trabajo pretende analizar cómo es oralizado el latín de la Audiencia de Guatemala durante el siglo xviii, con el propósito de señalar sus principales características fónica; se demuestra que se trata de un latín modulado por los hábitos fónicos de la lengua materna de sus hablantes, y en este caso fuertemente españolizado por medio de los principales rasgos dialectales que presentan las hablas hispánicas de la región.
