Claims (22)
- 스페이서에 의하여 간격이 규정된 한 쌍의 기판과, 상기 한 쌍의 기판 사이에 충전된 액정층과, 상기 액정층에 전계를 인가하기 위하여 상기 한 쌍의 기판중 한쪽의 기판에 형성된 전극군과, 상기 액정층을 사이에 끼고 배치되어 편광축이 서로 직교한 한 쌍의 편광판을 구비하는 액정표시장치에 있어서,상기 스페이서는 비표시영역에 있고,상기 액정층은 유전율이방성(Δε)이 1 이하인 구성성분을 40중량%이상 100중량%미만 함유하고, 상기 액정층과 상기 한 쌍의 기판의 2개의 계면에 있어서의 액정분자의 배향제어방향이 평행하고, 한쪽의 편광판의 편광축과 상기 계면에 있어서의 액정분자의 배향제어방향이 일치하고 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 스페이서에 의하여 간격이 규정된 한 쌍의 기판과, 상기 한 쌍의 기판 사이에 충전된 액정층과, 상기 액정층에 전계를 인가하기 위하여 상기 한 쌍의 기판중 한쪽의 기판에 형성된 전극군과, 상기 액정층을 사이에 끼고 배치되어 편광축이 서로 직교한 한 쌍의 편광판을 구비하는 액정표시장치에 있어서,상기 액정층의 회전점성계수(γ1)와 굴절율이방성(Δn)이 1 ×103mPa·s ≤γ1/Δn2 ≤1.2 ×1O4mPa·s를 만족하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 2항에 있어서,상기 액정층의 회전점성계수(γ1)와 굴절율이방성(Δn)이 1 ×103mPa·s ≤ γ1/Δn2 ≤6 ×103mPa·s를 만족하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 1항에 있어서,상기 액정층은 상기 액정층의 회전점성계수(γ1)와 굴절율이방성(Δn)이 1 ×103mPa·s ≤γ1/Δn2 ≤1.2 ×104mPa·s를 만족하고 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 4항에 있어서,상기 액정층의 회전점성계수(γ1)와 굴절율이방성(Δn)이 1 ×103mPa·s ≤γ1/Δn2 ≤6 ×103mPa·s를 만족하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 5항에 있어서,상기 전극군은 화소전극, 공통전극 및 액티브소자를 가지고, 상기 화소전극과 공통전극의 적어도 한쪽이 투명전극으로 구성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 1항에 있어서,상기 액정층의 굴절율이방성(Δn)과 두께(d)가 0.2㎛ < d ·Δn < 0.4㎛를 만족하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 1항에 있어서,상기 액정층중에 함유되는, 유전율이방성(Δε)이 1 이하인 성분의 적어도 하나가 고리형상구조를 분자중에 2개 가지는 화합물이고, 그 고리형상구조가 벤젠고리 또는 시클로헥산고리인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 1항에 있어서,상기 액정층중에 함유되는, 유전율이방성(Δε)이 1 이하인 성분의 적어도 하나가, 고리형상구조를 분자중에 1개 밖에 가지지 않는 화합물이고, 그 고리형상 구조가 벤젠고리 또는 시클로헥산고리인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 1항에 있어서,상기 액정층에 함유되는 화합물은, 고리형상구조를 분자중에 1개 가지며, 하기의 화학식 1로 나타내는 구조인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.(화학식 1)(식중 고리 A는, 1,4-시클로헥실렌 또는 1,4-페닐렌이다. B1 및 B2는 -COO-, -OOC-, -OCO-, -CX2-, = CX-, -CX=, -0-으로 이루어지는 군에서 선택된 기로, X는 수소 또는 할로겐원자를 나타낸다. R1 및 R2는 탄소수 1∼8의 알킬기로 할로겐원자에 의하여 치환되어 있어도 좋고, 또 탄소사슬중에 2중결합을 포함하여도 좋다.)
- 제 10항에 있어서,상기 고리형상구조를 분자중에 1개 밖에 가지지 않은 화합물이 고리 A가 1,4-시클로헥실렌이고, B1 및 B2는 -CX2-, -CX=, -O-으로 이루어지는 군에서 선택된 기로서, R1 및 R2는 할로겐원자에 의하여 치환되어 있어도 좋은 알킬기이며, 그 탄소수가 2, 4, 6, 8중 어느 하나인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 11항에 있어서,상기 화학식 1에서 R1 및 R2는, 할로겐원자에 의하여 치환될 수 있고, 탄소를 4개, 6개 또는 8개 포함하는 알킬사슬이며, 그 n번째의 탄소와 n+1번째(n=2, 4, 6)의 탄소 사이에 2중결합을 가지는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 10항에 있어서,상기 고리형상구조를 분자중에 1개 밖에 가지지 않은 화합물이 고리 A가 1, 4-페닐렌이고, B1 및 B2는 -CX2-, -O-으로 이루어지는 군에서 선택된 기로, R1 및 R2는 할로겐원자에 의하여 치환되어 있어도 좋은 알킬기이고, 그 탄소수가 2, 4, 6, 8중 어느 하나인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 13항에 있어서,상기 화학식 1에서 R1 및 R2는, 할로겐원자에 의하여 치환될 수 있고, 탄소를 4개, 6개 또는 8개 포함하는 알킬사슬이며, 그 n 번째의 탄소와 n + l번째(n=2, 4, 6)의 탄소 사이에 2중결합을 가지는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 10항에 있어서,상기 액정층에 함유되는 고리형상구조를 분자중에 1개 밖에 가지지 않은 화합물중, B1 이 -OOC-, B2가 -OCO-인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 16항에 있어서,상기 액정층중에, 유전율이방성(Δε)이 1 이하인 저극성성분과 상기 화학식 2로 표시되는 고극성성분과의 사이의 중극성의 액정성분을 함유하고 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 6항에 있어서,상기 화소전극과 공통전극이 불투명한 재질에 의하여 구성되어 있고, 상기 화소전극과 공통전극의 간격(L)과 상기 액정층의 굴절율이방성(Δn), 유전율이방성 (Δε)이 L Δn/√Δε≤0.55㎛ 인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 19항에 있어서,상기 화소전극과 공통전극의 간격(L)과 상기 액정층의 굴절율이방성(Δn), 유전율이방성 (Δε)이 L Δn/√Δε≤0.4㎛ 인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 6항에 있어서,상기 액정층의 굴절율이방성(Δn), 유전율이방성 (Δε)이 Δn/√Δε≤ 5.5 ×10-2인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
