Description
1.発明の分野
本発明は、次亜塩素酸塩を製造するための、電解質電極、および、その上に被覆された混合金属酸化物を対象とする。
塩溶液を電気分解することによって次亜塩素酸塩を生成するために混合金属酸化物の塗膜を使用することは、当業界において広く知られている。しかしながら、慣習的に次亜塩素酸塩が塩水の電気分解によって製造される場合、次亜塩素酸塩生成物の利用可能な塩素濃度は、1重量パーセント(wt%)またはそれ未満もの低さになる可能性がある。加えて、塩水を含む溶液が、あまり高濃度ではない場合(すなわち10〜30g/l)、電流効率や電極の寿命が減少し、次亜塩素酸塩濃度は8g/lより高いことが望ましい。
本発明において、改善された寿命を提供し、同時に次亜塩素酸塩を製造するための電解液において高い効率を維持する電極の塗膜が見出された。本塗膜は、パラジウム、イリジウム、ルテニウム、および、チタンの酸化物の組み合わせからなる混合金属酸化物の塗膜である。
弁金属電極ベース;
該弁金属電極ベース上の、電気化学的に活性な塗膜の塗膜層、
を含み、ここで、該塗膜は、白金族金属酸化物とチタンの弁金属酸化物との混合金属酸化物の塗膜を含み、該白金族金属酸化物は、実質的にルテニウム、パラジウムおよびイリジウムの酸化物からなり;
ここで、基準として塗膜中に存在する金属を100モルパーセントとして、
a)チタンの白金族金属酸化物に対するモル比は、約90:10〜約40:60であり;
b)ルテニウムのイリジウムに対するモル比は、約90:10〜約50:50であり;さらに、
c)酸化パラジウムの酸化ルテニウムおよび酸化イリジウムに対するモル比は、約5:95〜約40:60であり;
それによって本電極は、少なくとも8グラム/リットルの次亜塩素酸塩の濃度を生産するような高い電流効率で稼働する。
ここで、基準として塗膜中に存在する金属を100モルパーセントとして、
(a)チタンの白金族金属酸化物に対するモル比は、約90:10〜約40:60であり;
(b)ルテニウムのイリジウムに対するモル比は、約90:10〜約50:50であり、さらに、
(c)酸化パラジウムの酸化ルテニウムおよび酸化イリジウムに対するモル比は、約5:95〜約40:60であり;
該陽極に電流を印加する工程;および、該陽極で塩化物を酸化して、次亜塩素酸塩を少なくとも8グラム/リットルの濃度で製造する工程を含む。
本発明によれば、高い次亜塩素酸塩濃度で、例えば8g/l(グラム/リットル)より高い濃度で高い電流効率を有し、さらに低い電極電位と改善された寿命を示す、電極触媒作用をする塗膜を有する電極が提供される。一実施態様において、次亜塩素酸塩濃度に応じて、電流効率は、16〜0グラム/リットル(g/l)の次亜塩素酸塩濃度の範囲で約90%〜約100%と予想される。本明細書で説明されている電極触媒作用をする塗膜を有する電極は、は、実質的には常に陽極としての使役が見出されると予想される。従って、本明細書において電極について述べる場合、「陽極」という用語が用いられることが多いが、これは単に便宜上であって、本発明を制限すると解釈されないこととする。
厚さ約0.15cmであり、約10×15cmの寸法を有する合金化されていないグレード1チタンの平坦なチタンプレートを、アルミナを用いてグリットブラストし、粗面を得た。次に、このサンプルを、90〜95℃の18〜20%塩酸溶液中で25分間エッチングした。
Claims (14)
- 次亜塩素酸塩を製造するための水溶液の電気分解に使用する電極であって:
弁金属電極ベース;
該弁金属電極ベース上の、白金族金属酸化物とチタンの弁金属酸化物との混合金属酸化物の塗膜を含む電極触媒の塗膜、
からなり、ここで、該白金族金属酸化物は、ルテニウム、パラジウムおよびイリジウムの酸化物からなり;
ここで、基準として塗膜中に存在する金属を100モルパーセントとして、
(a)該チタンの該白金族金属酸化物に対するモル比は、90:10〜40:60であり;
(b)該ルテニウムの該イリジウムに対するモル比は、90:10〜50:50であり、さらに、
(c)該酸化パラジウムの酸化ルテニウムおよび酸化イリジウムに対するモル比は、5:95〜40:60である、上記電極。 - 前記弁金属電極ベースは、弁金属のメッシュ、シート、ブレード、チューブ、穿孔板、または、ワイヤー部材である、請求項1に記載の電極。
- 前記弁金属電極ベースは、チタン、タンタル、アルミニウム、ハフニウム、ニオブ、ジルコニウム、モリブデン、または、タングステン、それらの合金、および、それらの金属間混合物のいずれか一種で製造されている、請求項1または2に記載の電極。
- 前記弁金属電極ベースの表面は、粗面である、請求項1〜3のいずれか一項に記載の電極。
- 前記粗面は、粒界エッチング、グリットブラスティングまたは熱溶射の1種以上の工程により得られる、請求項4に記載の電極。
- 前記粗面上の前処理層としてセラミック酸化物のバリア層が確立されている、請求項4に記載の電極。
- 前記チタンの前記白金族金属酸化物に対するモル比は、70:30であり、前記酸化パラジウムの酸化ルテニウムおよび酸化イリジウムに対するモル比は、20:80である、請求項1〜6のいずれか一項に記載の電極。
- 酸化ルテニウムの酸化イリジウムに対するモル比は、1:1である、請求項1〜7のいずれか一項に記載の電極。
- 海水の電気分解における陽極としての、請求項1〜8のいずれか一項に記載の電極の使用。
- 次亜塩素酸塩を、少なくとも8グラム/リットルの濃度で、さらに90%〜100%の範囲の電流効率で製造する方法における陽極としての、請求項1〜8のいずれか一項に記載の電極の使用。
- 請求項1〜8のいずれか一項に記載の少なくとも1つの陽極を備えた電解セル中で水溶液を電気分解する方法であって:
分離されていない電解セルを提供する工程;
該セル中に塩化物を含む電解質を入れる工程;
該セル中に該陽極を該電解質と接触させて提供する工程、
該陽極に電流を印加する工程;および、
該陽極で塩化物を酸化して、次亜塩素酸塩を少なくとも8グラム/リットルの濃度で生産する工程、
を含む、上記方法。 - 前記セル中の前記塩化物電解質は、塩化ナトリウム、または、塩化カリウムの1種以上である、請求項11に記載の方法。
- 前記陽極の表面は、粒界エッチング、グリットブラスティングまたは熱溶射の1種以上の工程により製造された粗面である、請求項11または12に記載の方法。
- 前記粗面化された陽極表面はチタンを含み、前記電極触媒の塗膜は、静電噴霧での塗布、はけ塗り、ローラー塗り、浸漬塗り、およびそれらの組み合わせからなる群より選択される手法によって前記チタン部材上に提供される、請求項13に記載の方法。
