Abstract

916,976. Compressing slivers; roller arrangements. BOFILL, C. S., BOFILL, J. S., and BOFILL, J. S. June 1, 1959 [March 7, 1959], No. 18607/59. Classes 120 (1) and 120 (2). Slivers are compressed in order that they might have greater cohesion and better withstand the strains of direct spinning by passing them between spring-loaded rollers, one roller of a pair being mounted on the shaft of the other. One roller which is mounted in stationary supports may extend the entire length of a machine and be resiliently covered. Upon intermediate supporting necks of this roller are mounted brackets 12 to which are pivoted at 13 supporting members 14 in which are journalled rollers individual to each sliver being processed. These rollers also may be resiliently covered. A spring 20 urges the rollers together; they may be separated by a screw 22 or by a lever.
