A rotary scraper apparatus for a circular sedimentation tank 10 in which scrapers are carried from a gantry 12 extending part way across the tank and pivotally supported on a central feed pipe 31 has driving means 21, 24 mounted at one end of the gantry, and the gantry is unsupported at the opposite end. The unsupported end has a length to counterbalance in part the driving end while leaving sufficient weight for traction. Counter-weights 43 may be provided.
