Abstract

729,462. Gravity-separation apparatus. HARTLEY, C. J. July 10, 1953 [June 12, 1952], No. 14773/52. Class 111. A circular sludge sedimentation tank 10 having a central feed pipe 13 is divided by a skirt 21 into outer and inner zones 14, 17 between which sediment is transferred by scrapers 15 carried by a rotating bridge 16 supported on a central platform 20 above the tank ; the platform 20 being mounted on pillars 19 encircling the sludge zone 17 and carrying a central bearing 31 for a pivot 30 which is attached to the underside of the bridge and extends therethrough and drives scrapers 37 for discharging sediment from the steeply sloping floor of the zone 17 to a duct'18. The scrapers 37 are carried by arms 36 depending from crossarms 35 (not shown) secured to and driven by the pivot 30 which together with the bridge 16 is driven by gearing located either at the centre or the periphery of the tank. The bridge instead of spanning the whole tank may extend between the centre and the periphery where it runs on a circular track 41.
