Abstract
786,807. Treating sewage. HARTLEY, C. J. July 27, 1956 [July 27, 1955], No. 21657/55. Class 111. Rotary scraper apparatus for sedimentation tanks comprises two independent sets of scrapers, an outer set 26 scraping the outer part of the tank and an inner set 43 inwardly from where the outer set terminate, the peripheral speeds of the two sets being the same. A circular tank has an outer zone with a gently sloping floor 10 surrounding an inner zone with a more steeply sloping floor 11 leading to a central hopper 45. A cross bridge 20 pivoted at the centre of the tank and supported at its free end by the outer wall 15 of the tank where a driving gear 17 rotates it about its pivot carries the outer scrapers 26 through depending arms 25. The inner scrapers 43 which operate on the floor 11 depend from lattice work 42 carried by a cylindrical feed box 41 supported by arms 40 attached to a sleeve 34 driven by a motor 29 and worm gear at twice the rotational speed of the crossbridge 20. Further scrapers 43a on the lattice 42 may operate in the hopper 45. In modifications, the lattice 42 hangs directly from the arms 40 and the feed box is secured to the crossbridge 20 or the motor drives a large crown wheel from which the lattice is suspended. Specification 721,522 is referred to and Specification 540,432 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
