897,254. Gravity-separation apparatus. HARTLEYS (STOKE-ON-TRENT) Ltd. July 12, 1960 [June 12, 1959], No. 20124/59. Class 46. - : A grit washer 11 having a grit settlement zone 10 and an outlet 13 at the top for lighter material washed out of the grit, and liquid, is provided with a tube, e.g. 18, extending centrally downwards to a point sufficiently close to the grit settlement zone for the induction effect of the tube to draw up the lighter material in the grit and discharge it at the top. The dirty grit fed to the washer at 14 may have been withdrawn from a circular grit settlement channel 25 by a suction pump 28 supported on a rotating gantry 27. In Fig. 1 (not shown), the grit-settlement channel is omitted and the washer is slightly modified. Specifications 618,186, 644,501, 685,544 and 710,435 are referred to.
