Abstract
1,005,083. Centrifugal driers. FRANCAISE POUR LA SEPARATION L'EMULSION ET LE MELANGE (PROCEDES S.E.M.) S.A. March 23, 1962 [March 24, 1961 (2)], No. 11223/62. Heading F4G. Material to be spin-dried passes from a hopper 7 into a member 8 which rotates at high speed to centrifugally project it into a first centrifugal drying compartment 9 of inverted frusto-conical form, the liquid being upwardly projected through a sieve 10 into a circular collecting chamber 11 while the material is fed by conveyer worms 13, 14 over a sill 15 to be projected centrifugally into a second inverted frusto-conical drying compartment 16 cooperating with a sieve 17. The compartment 16 is of larger diameter than compartment 9 and has a conveyer worm 18 to ensure downward progression of the solid material under a sill 19 to a third drying compartment 26 co-operating with a sieve 27 and conveyer worms 28. The compartment is of larger diameter again and the dried material is projected from the sill to a collecting tank 30 in which a yielding deflector 31 is mounted to prevent disintegration of the material particles. During passage through the second compartment, the material may be washed or chemically treated by any suitable liquid entering at 20 into the drier and passing through an annulus 22 and passages 23, 24 for countercurrent flow up the compartment 16 with respect to the material. A neutral or other gas atmosphere may be maintained in the spindrier by the provision of a fluid-tight joint between the fixed casing and rotary parts of the machine.
