Class 82(2) In a jig washer in which the mixture of materials is separated in a single settling chamber into portions of different specific gravity which are directed into shafts leading to conveyers g, g1 whereby each portion is separately discharged, the conveyer g 'for at least the heavy material being vertical or steeply inclined over part of its length, the discharge of the separated heavy material is controlled in such a way that, at the point where it reaches the conveyer, the separated heavy material is isolated from the effects of the liquid pulsations. In one method, handoperated slides k, l, Fig. 1 are so set that the heavy materialfiUs the lower part of the shaft leading to the conveyer g. In another method, after a preliminary adjustment by slides s, s1 Fig. 3 the control is effected by wheels z, z1 controlled by floats h, i, it not being necessary then to keep the lower part of the conveyer shaft filled with heavy material. In each method, (1) the conveyers g, g1 may work continuously under the control of floats h, i, and may be replaced by rotating worms, (2) the pulsations may be controlled by throttles d and guide plates m, n, and (3) the lower part of the settling chamber may have a closable connection f with the conveyer g.
