Abstract

709,980. Washing granular material. MAATSCHAPPIJ VOOR KOLENBEWERKING STAMICARBON N.V. May 12, 1952 [May 15, 1951], No. 11986/52. Class 82 (2) A sink and float process of the kind in which the wash-box has an inclined bottom over and up which the settled heavy particles are carried by a screw conveyer to the discharge at the shallow end of the box, has a liquid current flowing in a direction opposite to the direction of conveyance of the screw to prevent the light particles in the shallow end of the box discharging with the heavy particles. The washbox 1 has a partition 6 dividing it into deep and shallow compartments, and a screw conveyor 10 to discharge the sinks at 11. The light particles are discharged at 17 and a mechanical scraper 16 may be provided to assist the discharge. Separating liquid is introduced at 13 to give the required liquid current. A vaned wheel 18 may also be provided to cause or assist the current. The infeed is made at 15.
