Abstract
748,606. Hair dryers. LECLABART, J., and HILTENBRAND, C. April 27, 1953 [April 30, 1952], No. 11633/53. Class 81(2). A hair drying machine comprises a helmet having a large number of small perforations through which jets of heated air pass from a motor driven impeller which is mounted together with an air-heating device within the main casing of the machine and in the vicinity of the helmet, the impeller being provided with an intake manifold formed with spiral-shaped passages. The helmet comprises two perforated walls 1, 3, the outer wall being secured at its lower edge to a partition 8 the upper edge of which supports a casing containing heating elements 18, a stator 19a and fans 19 which are driven by an electric motor 23. An annular space 12 outside the partition 8 and the casing is bounded by an outer casing 10 of the machine. The fans 19 draw air through holes 30 in the top of the machine from the apex of the helmet and from the annular space 12, through a mainfold 20 having spiral vanes and thence through the fans 19 and stator 19a so that it is forced over heating elements 18 and through holes 37 to a space 36 between the cylindrical partition 8 and the helmet. The air then passes through the helmet to the hair to be dried. Air is withdrawn from the lower part of the helmet through holes 2a which communicate with the annular space 12 so that the air may be recirculated. Both air drawn into the apparatus and recirculated air pass through a filter 25. The machine is mounted on a support 41, Fig. 4, and may be tilted by a lever 35 which has a handle 42 and passes through sleeve 40 attached to the casing 10. In a modification, Fig. 4, the annular space 12 and filter 25 are omitted, only one fan 45 is provided and the lower edge of the perforated helmet which has only one wall 1 is provided with an inwardly extending channel 39 which has perforations 2b, 2c on its upper side at the front of the helmet and on its lower side at the rear of the helmet so that air leaving the helmet is blown away from the face but on the nape of the neck. In another construction, Fig. 11 (not shown) air for recirculation is withdrawn by fans only through the apex of the helmet. In a further construction, Fig. 12 (not shown) air is recirculated after being withdrawn from the lower edge of the helmet through ducts located outside the front and back of the outer casing 10. In the last two constructions, Figs. 11 and 12 (not shown), the helmet, which is single-walled, is of transparent synthetic material and is integral with an outer part of the casing.
