A hair drier comprises a motor and fan unit 20 for supplying air to the hair via a delivery duct 24 and perforations 4 in the inner wall of a double walled hood 1, the motor and fan unit being situated at the back of the hood and comprising a pair of centrifugal fans (22, 23) carried on the opposite ends of the shaft of a single motor, there being a manifold 61 extending substantially the whole way round the periphery of the hood so that it may draw in air after it has impinged on the hair and providing, with suction ducts 60, the sole path for the supply of air to the fan inlets. The hood 1 may be of a transparent thermoplastic material and may be contained with the motor and fan unit 20 within a casing 31 adjustably mounted on a pillar support (14). There may be two separate delivery ducts (24, 25, Figure 3, not shown) or two interconnected ducts (24, 25, Figure 4, not shown). The motor may be provided with a time switch, a heater (26, 27, or 52) in the delivery duct may be provided with an automatic temperature control of exemplified type, and the perforations 4 in the inner wall of the hood may be non-uniformly distributed and may be shaped as nozzles. There may be a valved extractor opening from the delivery ducts to atmosphere so that fresh air is drawn into the drier at the manifolding 61. In an embodiment (Figures 1-3, not shown) the suction ducts for returning air to the motor and fan unit are formed by spaces between the casings 31, the outer wall of the hood, and the delivery ducts.
